Case Study: How Novateck Helped an HOA Save $400 per Month on Internet
A client approached us seeking ways for their Homeowners Association (HOA) to reduce their internet bill. After conducting a free on-site assessment, we identified key opportunities for cost savings and improved network security.
Current Setup:
- The building has 16 units, each wired with a single CAT5e Ethernet cable.
- Their Internet Service Provider (ISP) is Webpass, which charges the HOA $480/month for bulk service.
- CAT5e supports speeds up to 1000 Mbps, matching the ISP’s promised speed.
- However, tenants are limited to Webpass only because the building lacks coaxial and fiber cable infrastructure—making it impossible to switch to providers like Comcast, AT&T or Sonic.
Our Solution:
- We consolidated all 16 CAT5e connections into our patented Universal Telecom Hub, securing each line with our locking feature.
- The building’s Main Point of Entry (MPOE) is in an open garage, so the hub adds necessary physical security.
- We installed a SonicWall router that consolidates the 16 individual IP addresses into a single static IP address that communicates with the ISP switch.
- The router provides dynamic IP addresses to tenant devices, adding a layer of firewall protection against cyber threats.
- An Aruba 24-port gigabit switch was added to efficiently distribute network traffic among tenants.
Results:
- The HOA’s monthly internet bill dropped from $480 to $80, saving $400 each month.
- Tenants now enjoy secure, firewall-protected internet connections.
- The building is future-proofed to potentially support other ISPs in the future.
